Why yes it is a WiiWare port

Hey everyone, sorry I've been out of touch for a while. I was frantically preparing for a trip to Japan while at the same time getting my apartment ready for GLaDOS to flood it with neurotoxin (no seriously). So anyway hey did you know Cave Story is coming to the Wii?

Regarding the use of the translation, we haven't quite finished the formalities, so I can't make any definitive announcement. I'll let you guess what my hope is, though. I've had a chance to meet Tyrone in person (and see an early build of the game), and rest assured that the project looks to be in good hands.

You can probably already tell from the message up on the site, but Pixel is 100% behind this project. He first told me about it some months ago, and his excitement's palpable in every email. I'm beyond thrilled for him to see it's finally taking shape. And while Pixel may be the one who slaved for years alone in front of his keyboard to quietly craft what I think is one of the finest games in history, this still would be nothing but a dream if not for you, the fans, who drew art or made musical arrangements or wrote reviews or made costumes or built fan sites or just simply told a friend what a wonderfully fun game you had discovered and they really should try it. Thank you. Thank you.

Fantastic, thank-you for the update! I'm really excited to play this with a classic controller and I'm glad to know it is in good hands.

If it's possible, can I ask a few questions that you might be able to get the answers to?

Will it support Classic Controller, Wii Remote, GCN Controller, Keyboard?
Will there be multiple save slots?
Any chance of MP3/AAC/ORG support(put specially named MP3/AAC/ORGs in a folder on the SD card)?
If there is a 16:9 mode, will there still be a 4:3 option?
Will there be an option to choose between 320x240 1:1(stretched and unstretched) and 2:1(stretched and unstretched)?

PS: Nintendo needs to update to Flash 9.

No, Adobe has to release a new SDK for embedded devices.
Also, Flash 10 is the newest.

Yeah, Adobe's really stingy about Flash... Basically, if THEY don't make the Flash plug-in themselves, then you have no hope of a platform supporting anything newer than Flash 7.

Wii, PS3, PSP, etc... can only have support up to Flash 7. And that sucks.

It supports the classic controller and the Wiimote. Actually it wouldn't be hard to support the GCN Controller and Keyboards as well.

Why the hell do you want to your own music when there is Pixel's music!?

Yes, there is 16:9 and 4:3 support.

320x240 isn't possible for TVs. And why do you need specific non-square pixel modes for? 16:9 is anamorphic already.
Just use 480p to minimize the blur.

Is 640x480 possible on TVs? If so, then I mean 640x480. All that about anamorphism...What You Talkin' 'Bout Willis? I was hoping to be able to use the CSRP music. 480p rapes my eyes and makes me call 18002553700 :

I can try to ask, although it might be hard to get answers right now as Tyrone's as busy this week as I am. You might actually have better luck asking on the official blog; I'm sure he's checking comments there.

I'll have to wait to use my brother's computer, since Nintendo e-mailed me back saying they had no plans on announcing a new Internet Channel version(i.e. Updating the flash).

Hey, any word on why all the music seems to be getting ported to really crappy sounding midis with double the tempo of the original songs? (The musical oddities are my only reservation from complete excitement about the project)

They've remade all the music, but if you prefer Pixel's original music you can switch back at any time.

Tyrone has said "Yes, the sound effects are work-in-progress
And, yes, so is the music."

I don't know, personally, but myself I hope it doesn't wind up sounding like icky midi. I love Knytt Stories and I just found out (same as everyone else) about the musical connection, so I have high hopes that they'll do this right. At the very least, I know Tyrone is paying attention to internet reaction, so criticisms are not going unnoticed.

The version I saw a few months ago needed a ton of sound work. Apparently Pixel's sound engine is kind of unorthodox; when people have problems running the PC version, 9 times out of 10 it seems the fix is to tweak audio settings. This is probably one of the trickier parts to handle.

Porting it to SDL wasn't bad at all, but I can imagine (as I spend most of my work time porting to Wii) that it could be awkward to port to Wii.

It is good news that Tyrone paying attention to internet reaction.
I understand about the unorthodox sound engine, and I suspect that probably the easiest way to make the original music sound right is to record it to mp3s, and then play those back.
But then, I don't know if there are size limits to wiiware which might prescribe against that method... Converting to a module format like IT or XM might be a good solution to get the sound accurate and orthodox without ballooning the song size. But, I'm rambling and I'm sure somebody somewhere has already thought this through more thoroughly.

I know you can never hammer down a release date due to the way Nintendo handles WiiWare, but do you at least know how many points it's going to be?

I haven't a clue; that's probably something Nicalis will announce when it's finalized.

(First post around here, been lurking though, so, hi everyone)

Damn, I'm so happy about this, I've played the game countless times both on pc, xbox and psp, and this makes me very happy about Pixel, at last he had the recognition he deserves.

I'd like to get in contact both with the people who are making the wii port and the original english translators, so I could help and translate it to spanish (haven't found a spanish translation and lots of friends didn't play the game because of that), I'm sure that would help make the game get to even more people.

Also, now I will have to buy a wii. Damn it, there goes my savings. Again.

Sound and music toggles

Would it be possible to do the toggles on a song-by-song as well as global basis for the classic/remixed music? That would be really nifty.
